Last week I wrote about the setting up of a basic wireless router. There were a few questions that were brought up. So this week I’m going to answer the questions that were asked. The first question was what do you need to know when purchasing a wireless router. One this that will change the type of router and or quality is how many computers are you going to be using or weather you going to do gaming or not. So if your going to be using more than 2 wireless computers you need to get a littler bit better model that supports more Megabytes a second. If you’re an avid gamer like myself your going to need a better router even better than one that was talked about before. For gaming your price range is going to be in the 100 to 200 dollar range.
Here is a scenario you’re setting up your home network and you have 2 laptops and a Desktop. The routers that you going to see for sail are going to be 802.11 n you want to make sure that it is also backwards compatible so that it will work on older computers. In this scenario your going to be in the 30 to 70 dollar range. If yo9u read the specs you will see that it list the MBS (megabytes per second). Make sure that the one that you are buying is at least 150 MBS. Another is the make sure it has the right security capabilities such as WPA WEP and many others make sure it has security enabled.
The second question is what does a Ethernet cord look like. An Ethernet cord or also known as a patch cord to tech geeks is a wire that has a multiple of wires inside that allow computers to communicate with computer language. Third question is does the length matter? The length matters only on what length of cable you need to get to your router and modem. You will experience a slow of data transfer after about 150 feet. So if your buying Ethernet cord for your home router only buy a little bit longer than what you need.
Fourth Question do you have to have your computer on to set up the network. The answer is yes, because in able to pull up the router configuration page you must have the computer on. The final question is weither all of your computers have to be on for the network to be set up. The answer is no all you have to do is connect afterward using the information that you entered in the router configuration page.

GreenMan- Thanks for the answers! I like how you mostly organized each paragraph by the question (it was super easy to find the answers- I had to look a bit deeper for #3 but I found it and I see what you grouped it with #2).
ReplyDeleteTwo other things: The font seems really small. Could you boost the size just a bit? And... your= something that belongs to "you" and you're = you + are. There are a few places were you need "you're". As well, collEGE is where you go for school and collAGE is what you make in art class (on your profile).
Feel free to delete this comment once you fix those little areas. ;)
